Miss Louise Patricia Hanna, age 97, of Douglas, GA passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Manor House. Miss Hanna was born on February 24, 1920, in Douglas, Georgia to the late Mose Hanna and Rosa Nuthea Hanna. Miss Hanna was a life-long member of St. Paul Catholic Church where she served as sacristan for more than 60 years. She was a pillar of the church. She was always ready and willing to volunteer her time and gifts for the well-being and up-building of the church.

In 1991, Miss Hanna was bestowed the rare honor of becoming an honorary member of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. This district honor means that she became a member of the religious congregation of priests and brothers who serve the church world-wide and have served at her home parrish. At the time of her death, Miss Hanna was the oldest living merchant in Douglas, GA and owner of Hanna’s on South Peterson Avenue, which is celebrating its 100th year in business. Although she never married she was a mother to all her nieces and nephews, who loved her like a mother.

Survivors include: nieces: Darlene Hogan of Suwanee, GA, Geni Hanna of Jacksonville, FL.; nephews: Rick and wife, Stephanie Hanna of Tuscaloosa, AL, George Hanna, Jr., of Brevard, NC, John and wife, Lael Hanna, Jr., of Jacksonville Beach, FL; great-niece’s: Michele and husband, Johnny Deems of Douglas, GA, Cathy and husband, George Daryl Harper of Ambrose, GA, Cindy and husband, Keith Bray of Douglas, GA, Dana and husband, William Strickland of Raleigh, NC, Katherine Abdoo of Tampa, FL, Hollie Harvey of Tampa, FL, Debbie and husband, Bill Ahern of Tampa, FL, Maureen Smith of Cuthbert, GA; great-nephew’s: Abraham Abdoo of Tampa, FL, Rick and wife, Mary Ellen Hanna, Jr., of Tuscaloosa, AL, Christian Hanna of Tuscaloosa, AL, Matthew Hanna of Brevard, NC, Michael and wife, Kenna Hogan of Atlanta, GA, Dax and wife, Angie Hogan of Atlanta, GA.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul Catholic Church where Father Dan O’Connell, and Father Paul O’Connell officiated. Active Pallbearers were: Jeremy Deems, Cason Adams, John Hanna, Jr., Rick Hanna, Jr., Payne Hanna Ashly Bray, Michael Hogan, Dax Hogan.

Interment followed at Douglas City Cemetery. Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
