The last week of school before winter break was certainly a flurry of activities and excitement! Third, fourth and fifth grade students at WGES were especially excited for Tuesday, Dec.19.

Ms. Harrell, Mrs. Green, and Mrs. Roberts, along with other faculty members, put together a special treat to reward students for their hard work. Each student in third through fifth grade that met their winter Reading Counts goal with a 70 percent average got the opportunity to attend the winter party.

The reader with the most points was recognized from each grade level and received a special prize from their teacher. Jonan Lovett (3rd), Josue DeJesus (4th) and Melinda Wright (5th) were the readers with the most points.

At the Winter Reading Land, students went to various stations and participated in winter-themed activities. Students got their faces painted and took plenty of “Elfies”. They decorated and ate Christmas cookies, they roasted marshmallows to make S’mores and drank hot chocolate at one station. Tthey got to listen to the librarian, Mrs. Taft, read Christmas stories, and they enjoyed painting and decorating ornaments. All of the students who attended worked extremely hard to reach their goals and deserved every moment of enjoyment that came from the festivities of the Winter Reading Land.

Ms. Harrell, Mrs. Green, and Mrs. Roberts want to let their students know how proud they are of them! When students return to school they will be working hard to meet their end of the year goals for Reading Counts. We can’t wait to see what the surprise will be for those that do!
