The Douglas Police Department will be conducting a Women’s Firearms Safety and Familiarization course on March 10, 2018 at the Douglas Police Department Training Facility located at 581 Victor Bray Rd. Class will begin at 8 a.m. and will conclude at approximately 5 p.m.

The course covers legal issues including: use of force and deadly force, firearms carry, shooting fundamentals and live fire practice. Depending on weather conditions the morning hours will be spent in the classroom and participants will travel to the gun range after lunch. Participants should bring a safe, operable handgun, holster, and one box (50 rounds) of ammunition. For participants who do not have a handgun, the police department will have some 9mm and 38 special handguns available to loan. If a participant uses one of the DPD handguns, the participant will need to furnish ammunition in either 9mm or 38 special.

Participants do not have to be a resident of Douglas to attend this course. The course is open to all women that are legally eligible to possess a firearm. If someone under the age of 18 wishes to attend, they must be accompanied by a legal female guardian.

There is a small fee of $10 to cover the cost of targets and other supplies. Persons wishing to take the course are encouraged to register early; class is limited to 25 participants. Registration forms are available from the Douglas Police Department or contact: Commander Bart McCulloch at (912) 384-2222 Ext. 3616, (912) 393-4356, or e-mail at bmcculloch@cityofdouglas.com
