Bryan Preston, Coffee County School Board Chair, was recently appointed to the Georgia School Board Association (GSBA) Board of Directors for District 8. Preston was appointed to fulfill the term of Millard Allen, Glynn County Board of Education, who stepped down for personal reasons. GSBA District 8 encompasses Appling County, Atkinson County, Bacon County, Brantley County, Camden County, Charlton County, Clinch County, Coffee County, Glynn County, Jeff Davis County, Pierce County, Ware County, and Wayne County. Preston will serve the remainder of Mr. Allen’s term and then be eligible to seek election from District 8 for a three-year term.
The mission of the Georgia School Boards Association is to ensure excellence in the governance of local school systems by providing leadership, advocacy and services, and by representing the collective resolve of Georgia’s elected boards of education. The Board of Directors is empowered to manage the affairs and transact the business of the Association and to employ the Executive Director.
Asked about his appointment Preston stated, “It’s an honor to serve Coffee County on our local school board and I’m honored and humbled at this appointment. I’ll be working with school board members across our region in District 8 and the State to advocate for our students and their education. This appointment reflects more about the success of the students and Educators in Coffee County than it does about a single person; I’m simply grateful to be a steward and advocate for education at the state level as I continue to serve on our local board. Also, I appreciate my fellow Coffee County Board of Education members for allowing me to serve in this role.”
