Nathan Vining, a freshman at George Washington Carver Freshman Campus (GWCFC), made a decision to change his school’s athletic department. Vining entered Powerade’s “Power Your School” essay contest and in his essay he described what GWCFC’s athletic department could use to increase student involvement. In this essay contest, the Powerade company gave each winning essay a $2,000 check. GWCFC also received some Powerade pep rally supplies, such as t-shirts and fans.
Vining entered this contest because he feels passionate about sports. When Vining was asked why our campus needed the money for new equipment, he stated that, “Our campus doesn’t have the equipment that the main campus does.” Even though GWCFC has less students than the main high school campus, Vining thought that the ninth grade campus deserved as much of a chance as the main campus did to have good equipment.
