SGSC Lady Hawks open at home with two shutout victories against USC-Salkahatchie

South Georgia State College (SGSC) Lady Hawks had no trouble on offense, winning big over USC-Salkahatchie 8-0 in game one of a non-conference doubleheader in Douglas on Saturday.

Sarah Smith earned the win in the opening game for South Georgia State College. She allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking zero.

SGSC tallied 12 hits and put up four runs in the fourth inning. Tess Robinson, Logan Mullis and Kelsey Davis powered the big inning with RBIs. The Lady Hawks totaled nine hits in the game. Mullis, Robinson and Davis each managed multiple hits. Rachel Paulk, Mullis, and Clements each collected two hits to lead SGSC.

In game two on Saturday, Larren Carter didn’t allow a single run against USC-Salkahatchie, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Lady Hawks to a 10-0 victory. Carter allowed only one hit, a single in the third inning. She took the win for SGSC, to run her record to 1-0. She surrendered zero runs on one hit over five innings, striking out six and walking one.

The Lady Hawks secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the first inning. Destiny McRae, Abbi Lewis, Tess Robinson, Marlee Clements and Logan Mullis all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. McRae singled on a 1-1 count, scoring three runs.

South Georgia State College is back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at St. John’s River State and play at home on Thursday, Feb. 15, against nationally ranked Lake Land College of Chicago, Illinois. The Lakers are currently ranked 9th in NJCAA Division I softball. First pitch on Thursday is 1 pm.
