Corporal Robert Joughin Riles, age 96, of Jacksonville, FL passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018, at McGraw Center for Caring, in Jacksonville. Corporal Riles was born on March 17, 1921, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Robert Jefferson Riles and Evelyn Pearl Joughin Riles. He served in the WWII, 5th medical battalion in the United States Marine Corps in battle of Iwojima. Corporal Riles was a pilot and flight instructor in Jacksonville, Florida, a past president of the Lion’s club in Waycross, GA, also active with the Lion’s camp for the blind. He had a love for Doberman pincher dogs that he worked with daily as messenger dogs while serving in WWII. His loving pet, a handsome boxer (Warbuck) was his constant companion in last years.
He is survived by: his nieces: Gaye and husband Todd Cook of Bluffton, SC, Joye J. and husband Mel Pugh of Douglas, GA, Jana and husband Carl Collins of Brazelton, GA, Susan and husband Terrance Paulk of Fitzgerald, GA, Sheila Ann Griffin of GA; nephews: Stanton and Donna Meeks of Waycross, GA, Robert and wife Ann Dix, III of Jacksonville, FL, Randall Dix of Jacksonville, FL, Ricky Dix of Jacksonville, FL, Thomas Griffin of Grey, GA, Eric Griffin; special cousin, Lula Joughin Dovi of Tampa, FL; sister-in-laws: Geraldine Robertson of Brazelton, GA. and Geneva Griffin of Perry, GA.
He was preceded in death by his wife Clydie Paulk Riles.
Funeral Service was held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 2 p.m., at the Henderson Chapel, where Rev. Edward McIntyre officiated.
Interment followed to Henderson Chapel Cemetery.
