4-H DAY AT THE CAPITOL

On Feb. 1, 4-H members from across the state converged in Atlanta for 4-H Day at the State Capitol. 4-H members from Coffee County who participated include Jeremiah Brantley, Bethany Land, T.K. McIver, Willie Spence, Justin Strickland, Micheal Woods, Evie Woodward, Kimberly Wright and they were chaperoned by Mrs. Chalanda Woods. These folks got to hear Governor Nathan Deal and the First Lady Sandra Deal at the 4-H luncheon in the Freight Depot. While there, they also got to meet State Senator Tyler Harper and State Representative Dominic LaRiccia.

This event is held each year to introduce 4-H members to the legislative process as well as allow them to tour the state capitol.

SENIOR 4-H CONFERENCE

This year’s Senior 4-H Statewide Spring Conference (also called 4-H Prom by many) will be held at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center the weekend of April 7-8. Early bird cost is $70 if paid by Friday, March 16. After this date, the price goes up $5 to $75.
The weekend’s events will include a motivational speaker, college recruiters, a semi-formal/formal dance, an outdoor after-dance party including inflatable obstacles and slides, snacks, and a lot of fun! Don’t miss out on this great weekend with your friends at Rock Eagle! Get your payment turned in to the Coffee County Extension office before March 16.

JUNIOR 4-H CONFERENCE

This year’s Junior 4-H District Spring Conference will be held at Camp Jekyll the weekend of April 27-28. The theme is “4-H Survivor” and the weekend’s activities will include a fun time at the beach with friends from all over Southeast District! The schedule includes a cookout on Friday evening, an opening assembly, followed by a dance, recreation, and s’mores. Saturday will include a couple of workshops, beach games and a silent auction. This conference is open to 7th and 8th graders as well as 6th graders who competed in DPA this school year or attended summer camp last summer. The registration deadline is March 23 and the cost for the two day event is $80. Don’t miss out on this great weekend with your friends at Camp Jekyll!

SUMMER CAMPS

As we have been enjoying some early spring weather, it makes you start thinking about summer plans. If you have a child in 4th – 12th grade who might be interested in a week of fun and learning, don’t forget that 4-H Summer Camp is an option for them. Fourth through sixth graders will camp at Camp Jekyll the week of June 4-8. Seventh and eighth graders will camp at the Fortson 4-H Center near Hampton the week of June 25-29. Senior 4-H members will be camping at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center the week of July 2-6. Camp costs run around $370 to $380 depending on the camp. Sign up soon before all spaces are filled.

LEADERSHIP IN ACTION

Junior and Senior 4-H members who plan to compete in the Leadership In Action (LIA)Award program need to get started on their application as soon as possible. Final applications are due in the Coffee County Extension office by Friday, March 23.
If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our website at http://coffee4h.org.
