Mr. Hiram Tanner, Jr., age 90, of Douglas, GA passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 6, 2018, at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Tanner was born January 7, 1928, in Coffee County the son of the late Hiram Tanner, Sr. and Lila Vaughn Tanner. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Theresa Laverne Tanner; and special friend, Carol Fletcher.

He served in the United States Navy and was a lifelong member of Stokesville Baptist Church.

God has been so good to me all these years and I have been so blessed. I want to thank the Lord for my family and blessing me with a wonderful wife, four children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

I thank the Lord for having a profession that I dearly loved, farming. I enjoyed the challenges that went into farming each year, planting and watching the crops grow. The beauty and joy of knowing that I could grow and harvest the crops was such a pleasure.

There were times that were hard along with the good. Sometimes there wasn’t much profit, but the Lord was with me through it all. Thank you again, Jesus for my time here and for the blessings that you have bestowed upon me.

Psalms 23 says it all for me.

Survivors include: his children: Donnie Tanner and wife Marilyn, Rose Tanner Meeks and husband Tim, Barry Tanner and wife Jeri and Sherry Tanner Evans all of Douglas, GA; grandchildren: Bryon Tanner and wife Carrie, Susan Hampton and husband Michael, Allison Spivey and husband Shanon, Tanna Owsley and husband Josh, Joseph Meeks and wife Whitney, Josh Meeks and wife Amy, B.H.
