Coffee County sheriff’s investigators arrested a 32-year-old convicted child molester Monday after the offender moved to the area and failed to register his residency as part of the requirements of his sex offender status.

Michael Lee Rowe, convicted of aggravated child molestation in Atkinson County in 2007, was released from the Pierce County Jail in late February after being charged there with failing to register as a sex offender. He moved into Coffee County since that time, where he was residing at a local motel.

Coffee County authorities were able to contact Rowe via telephone last week, and advised him that he needed to come to the sheriff’s office to register his residency. Rowe failed to report to the sheriff’s office, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.

All convicted sex offender residing in Georgia are required by law to report to the county sheriff’s office where they will be residing within 72 hours of moving or release from incarceration.

Rowe was located Monday afternoon and booked into the Coffee County Jail. He has been charged with one count of failing to register as a sex offender.
