U.S. Rep. Rick Allen (R-Augusta) will face opposition from four candidates in the 2018 election cycle. Three Democrats and one Republican seek to oust the incumbent from Augusta, first in May then again in November. A couple of the names might sound familiar to those who follow the statewide political scene closely.

One fellow Republican is challenging Allen – Eugene Yu, who ran against Allen in the last election. Yu, a native of South Korea who emigrated to the United States 45 years ago and served in the United States military, visited Douglas several times on the campaign trail and made quite an impact on local voters. However, he didn’t fare well in the race but he remains confident that he will have a better showing this time around.

On the Democratic side, Statesboro attorney and minister Francys Johnson, Augusta tax preparer Robert Ingham (who last ran for office in 2012 in the District 23 state senate seat where he lost to Republican Jesse Stone), and Statesboro contractor Trent Nesmith, will all battle for the chance to face off against their Republican opponent in November.

The primary takes place on May 22. The general election follows on Nov. 6.
