GBI investigates Douglas Police Department officer’s missing weapon

On Thursday, March 1, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) Douglas Regional Office received a request by the Douglas Police Department to assist with a missing duty weapon investigation.

On Wednesday, February 28, 2018, an officer with the Douglas Police Department reported that he had lost or misplaced his issued AR-15 rifle while on duty. The officer last reported being in possession of the weapon between the dates of February 26, 2018, and February 27, 2018. On March 13, 2018, agents recovered the weapon on Hwy 441 in Douglas, Georgia.

This case is active and ongoing and anyone with information regarding the rifle is encouraged to contact the Douglas Police Department at (912) 260-3600 or the GBI at (912) 389-4103.
