Clinton (Lyn) Lynwood Lott, III passed away on March 22, 2018, at Shepherd Center in Atlanta following complications from surgery at Emory University Hospital to remove a benign brain tumor. Mr. Lott was born on April 9, 1950 in Douglas, Georgia the son of the late Clinton Lynwood Lott II and Lorraine Vickers Lott.
Lyn Lott is survived by: his wife, Sheryl; son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Benita Lott and their two children: Nora and Mack Lott; daughter and son-in-law Lorra and Kyle Byrd, and their two children, Jocelyn and Lott Byrd; brother, David Lott (Jenny); and brother, Larry Lott (Vickie).
Lyn attended the University of Georgia where he lettered four years in golf, was All SEC in 1971 and 1972, and helped lead the Bulldogs to four straight SEC Championships. Lott won the Georgia Open in 1967 and the Georgia Amateur in 1972. He turned professional in 1973 and played on the PGA Tour until 1984. Lott finished third in three PGA events, and tied for seventh, 1977, and eighth, 1976, in U.S. Open Championships. He played in The Masters three times. He is a member of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame.
After retiring from the PGA Tour, Lott worked for Lott Investment Company, LLC. He remained an ambassador for the sport of golf, the University of Georgia, and Douglas and Coffee County. Lott was popular at UGA alumni events and was well-liked by fans throughout the Bulldog Nation.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Douglas, Georgia. Pastors Shep Johnson and George Carroll Paulk officiated and Shelton Souther delivered the eulogy. Music was provided by Martha Souther (Amazing Grace), Joel and Amanda Scholten (It is Well With My Soul), and Jay Beverly (piano).
Honorary pallbearers were Smitty File, Bob Williams, Randy Clark, Ralph Evans, Rowan Evans, Julian Meeks, Scott Moore, Pete Cox, Wayne Grantham, Don Brooks, Phil Tanner and the Bridge Club; Dr. and Mrs. Guy Moorman, Mr. and Mrs. John Tanner, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bagwell, Bob Preston, Miriam Holland, Dr. and Mrs. Roy Lindsey, Candace Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Lanier.
