Beverly Johns recently attended the Council of Probate Court Judges Spring Conference. This conference is sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education and was held at the King and Prince Resort for Continuing Education in St. Simons Island, Ga., March 19-22.

The Judges attended judicial training courses. Course topics this year included: Self-Representing Litigants, Licenses, Wills & Estates, Unclaimed Funds, Missing Heirs, Interpreters and Mock Trial Scenarios.  Probate Judges are now required to become certified. This certification requires Judges to complete required courses and test within a certain time frame. Judge Johns, was in attendance along with several other judges continuing to work on her certification courses.  These courses were Civil Procedure 1 and Civil Procedure 2.  Judge Johns has completed six of the thirteen courses that she will be taking to become certified. She is scheduled to take two more courses throughout this year.

The Council of Probate Court Judges was created to further the improvement of the probate courts and the administration of justice. It is composed of currently seated judges and retired judges of the Georgia Probate Courts.
