Mr. Richard Clyde Lanier, age 80, of Douglas, GA passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Vista Park. Lanier was born on March 20, 1938, in Durham, North Carolina to the late Brasel Lanier and Ida Lupo Lanier, Richard was formally from Dillon, SC.

Survivors include: wife, Betty Day Lanier of Douglas, GA; sons: Tony Harrell of Gallatin, TN., Terry (Hollie) Harrell of Gallatin, TN., and Tommy (Lynn) Harrell of Douglas, GA; grandchildren: Joshua Harrell, Courtney Sheffield, Hanna Roberts, Hayden Harrell; and six great grandchildren. Mr. Lanier was preceded in death by: father, Brasel Lanier; and mother, Ida Lupo Lanier.

Richard served approximately 10 years in the US Marines with honorary discharge as Staff Sgt., to attend college. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Pembroke College.

He was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Douglas, GA.

Funeral Services were held on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 4 P.M. at the Sims Funeral Home where Rev. John Carver officiated. Interment followed at the City of Douglas Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements
