University of Georgia senior Keegan McGovern earned Southeastern Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors as well as being named First Team All-SEC, the league announced Monday.

McGovern was one of four Bulldogs to receive SEC honors as voted on by the league coaches. Georgia junior designated hitter Michael Curry and junior first baseman Adam Sasser were named Second Team All-SEC while catcher Mason Meadows earned a spot on the All Freshman SEC squad.

McGovern, a 6-2, 220-pound native of Willacoochee, Ga., is the first Bulldog since Gordon Beckham in 2008 to be named the SEC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. An annual member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, McGovern needs just one more class to earn a degree in biology. Also, he is a two-time member of the SEC Community Service Team. On the field in 2018 as a co-captain, he has led eighth-ranked Georgia (37-17) to its finest season in a decade. In 52 starts in left field, McGovern ranks among the league leaders in several offensive categories including a .330 batting average, 15 home runs, 62 runs scored and 44 RBI plus has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 102 total chances including four assists.

Curry, a 5-11, 212-pound native of Gainesville, Ga., leads the team with 47 RBI while batting .327 with 10 home runs in starting all 54 games. Sasser, a 6-4, 245-pound native of Evans, Ga., owns a .321 batting average with nine home runs and 41 RBI in 53 games. Meadows, a 6-1, 221-pound native of Roswell, Ga., has appeared in 46 games with 39 starts behind the plate. He is batting .288 with three home runs and 25 RBI.

Georgia earned a first round bye in this week’s SEC Tournament held at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Ala. The Bulldogs will play Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. ET against the winner of the Vanderbilt/Texas A&M contest slated for Tuesday’s first round.
