Bobby Eugene Lyles, age 85, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Thursday May 17, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Lyles was born on March 1, 1933 in Henry County, Georgia the son of the late Paul L. Lyles and Katie Taylor Lyles.
He was a mechanic with Delta Airlines retiring after 25 years and also retired from the City of Atlanta after fifteen years. He loved driving in dirt track races on the weekend, was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during Korea.
He was preceded in death by: a son, Phil Lyles; and a brother, Paul Lyles.
Survivors include: his wife, Bernice DuBose Lyles; daughter, Joy Verneau and husband Scott of Orlando, FL; brother, Norman Lyles and wife Marie of Mansfields, GA; granddaughters: Sara Samples and husband Ashley of Hoschton, GA and Tasha Reyes and husband Eddie of Orlando, FL; grandsons: Ryan Lyles of Forest Park, GA and Nichols Verneau of Orlando, FL; two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 4 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home Chapel where Rev. Shep Johnson officiated. Interment followed at Douglas City Cemetery.
