Former South Georgia State College Hawk Cayden Hatcher has signed a free agent contract with the Colorado Rockies.

Hatcher, a native of Ponte Vedra, Fla., pitched for the Hawks in 2015 and 2016 before signing with the Nicholls State University Colonels in Thibodaux, La. His sophomore year at SGSC, he was 9-4 with a 3.45 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 75 2/3 innings.

As a junior with the Colonels, Hatcher, a 6’5”, 200-pound righty, was 4-4 with a 6.07 ERA in 16 appearances (11 starts). This season, he also won four games and posted a 4.13 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 98 innings.

“Cayden is a tremendous young man who has a bright future ahead of him. He was a great player during his time as a Hawk and he built upon that success at Nicholls. I’m very proud of him and I’m looking forward to great things from him moving forward,” stated Jeff Timothy, SGSC head baseball coach.
