The Douglas-Coffee County Animal Shelter devotes their days to finding new homes for dogs and cats.

The Douglas-Coffee County Animal Shelter operates using donations from the community. According to Stacy Jones, owner of DCCAS, the shelter collaborates with several rescue groups and as a result, has decreased the number of euthanizations as opposed to last year’s numbers. Stacy also revealed that one of their main goals was to rebuild the shelter’s reputation within the community.

The animal shelter has a lot to be thankful for. On Sunday, June 10, 2018, Walmart Distribution Center delivered a semi-truck containing food and supplies for the animal shelter. Walmart Distribution had many influential people involved in the donation process.

Family and staff of the Douglas-Coffee County Animal Shelter would like to give a special thanks to: Whitney Newham, the human resource manager of transportation, who coordinated the delivery and Jason Brown who verified the delivery went smoothly in Whitney’s absence; Vicky McNeal, Pet Floor Area Manager; John James, General Manager of Walmart Distribution Center; and David, who was the truck driver for this delivery.

Tractor Supply also contributes to the local animal shelter. They deliver flee spray and other pet-related items. They also sponsor adoption events when the shelter becomes close to capacity. Lori Register, the manager, always helps the shelter in any way she can. Hurst & Hurst CPA’s and Small Business Advisors assists by sponsoring animals to prevent euthanizations, host animal food drives and reimburse adoption fees. Coffee Middle School Junior Honor Society is also an aid to the shelter by helping with pet therapy at Summer’s Landing, a senior-living retirement home.

The animal shelter has made adopting an easier process — by following only the state adoption rules rather than those of the Humane Society. The adoption price has decreased drastically from $150 to $30 — everyone who walks through the door is instantly approved. The state requirement is to have them spayed/neutered and to receive their rabies shot within 30 days of the adoption.

If you’re looking to adopt or rescue a pet, be sure to stop by to see the Jones family & staff at 620 Iron Rd Douglas, Ga 31535.

Douglas Coffee-County Animal Shelter started a GoFundMe page to fence in more yard to allow more animals to go outside at a time. The GoFundMe link is: https://www.gofundme.com/fencing-in-the-backyard.
