Carl Clayton Atkinson, age 94, of Broxton, GA passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018. He was born on March 14, 1924, in Coffee County, GA the son of the late Claton Carl Atkinson and Eliza Byrd Atkinson where he lived his entire life.
He was a prominent businessman in South Georgia as co-owner of Atkinson-Griffin Farm Supply until he retired in 2000. Mr. Atkinson was a Navy Veteran of WWII and also a long time member of Broxton Baptist Church.
Mr. Atkinson was preceded by: all his siblings: Dewilda Trowell, Tom Byrd Atkinson, Milton Atkinson, Winnie Jaggers, Almeada Collins and Jimmy Atkinson.
Survivors include: daughter, Gayle Atkinson Ball and husband John of Savannah, GA; sons: Steve Atkinson and wife Lola of Broxton, GA, Jimmy Atkinson and wife Tracie of Port Saint Luci, FL and David Atkinson and wife Angie of Broxton, GA; grandchildren: Clay Collier and wife Heather, Pia Morris and husband Tom, Kristin Atkinson, Tiffany Atkinson, Jesse Atkinson, Logan Atkinson, Alana Atkinson and Leana Atkinson; great grandchildren: Matthew Collier, Walker Bennett, David, Jonathan and Abigail Morris, Tyson and Maggie Cook and Bentley Atkinson.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Broxton Baptist Church where Rev. Robert Wigley and Rev. Gary Clements officiated. Interment followed at Mt. Pleasant Byrd Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were: Clay Collier, Matthew Collier, Logan Atkinson, Joe Atkinson, John Harry Dockery and Tommy Beasley; Honorary pallbearers were: Sunday School Class, Jerry Wooten, Terry Carver, Sam Roberts, Jim Deen, Earl Carter, Charles Ricketson and Jimmy Smith.
