Martin Jesus Cato Sr., age 53, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018, at his residence following a brief illness. Mr. Cato was born on November 17, 1964, in Mexico the son of Maria Guadalupe Ramirez Cato and the late John Edward Cato.

Mr. Cato was a veteran of the United States Navy where he worked as a fireman.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Devon Hitt.

Survivors include: his wife, Melissa D. Bowers Cato of Douglas, GA; daughters: Kayla Marie Cato and Karli Madison Cato both of Douglas, GA; son, Martin Jesus Cato Jr. of Douglas, GA; step-daughters: Melissa Covington of Baxley, GA, Ashley Taylor of Douglas, GA and Allie King of Douglas, GA; mother, Maria Guadalupe Ramirez Cato of Douglas, GA; grandchildren: Lexi Stone, Sebastian Iglesias, Kain Covington, Mali Covington, Cohlton King and Cayson King; brother, Raymond Cato of Douglas, GA; sisters: Norma Hardester of Americus, GA and Denise Vickers of Marietta, GA; several nieces.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Sims Funeral Home Chapel where Rev. George Carroll Paulk officiated and Rev. Cliff Kirkland at the graveside. Interment followed at Satilla Memorial Gardens with Military honors being provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard.

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
