The City of Douglas Human Resource Department hosted its first Job Fair and Resource Expo on Thursday, August 2, 2018, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., at the JD Murray Gymnasium located on the George Washington Carver Freshman Campus. Employers and resource agencies from local and out of town businesses were available for citizens to apply for jobs, seek guidance, and receive helpful resource materials for their career path.

“I would like to thank everyone that came out and played a role in making our first job fair a success. Thanks to the vendors and employers that took the time out to participate and represent your organization,” says Mayor Pro Tem Kentaiwon Durham. “Lastly, thanks to every individual that came out seeking employment. I hope everyone will have success in finding a job and the resources needed to better themselves and their families. Thanks again and good luck!”

Over 25 businesses assisted citizens with applications, GED testing, background checks, and other information for applicants that are unemployed or seeking new employment. Businesses ranged from education, insurance, nursing, to trucking, food production and delivery.

Thanks to the agencies who participated: AT&T, Department of Human Services, Douglas Fire Department, Douglas Utilities, Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council, Douglas Police Department, Coffee Correctional Facility, Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce, DeVry University, ESG Operations, Ga. Dept. of Driver Services, Labor Finders, LaSalle Corrections (Ocilla), Legal Shield (Warner Robbins), Midway Trucking, Modern Woodmen of America, New Hire Solutions (Thomasville), Pilgrim’s, Red Head Vending, Smile Doctors, South Georgia State College, Telamon Corporation, Troy University, Ware State Prison (Waycross), Waste Industries, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College (Douglas & Valdosta), and Y’carte Health Career Center.
