Mr. Sixto Luis Martinez, age 82 of Douglas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 12, 2018, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Martinez was born October 10, 1935 to the late Manuel and Elena Martinez in Florida, Cuba in the Camaguey province. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Del Sol Martinez.

Mr. Martinez, a native of Florida, Cuba, was a retired journeyman electrician. Also he was a former pilot and he was a U. S. Army veteran.

Mr. Martinez was a member of Covenant Church.

Survivors include: wife Anne Gifford Martinez of Douglas; brother Hugo Martinez of Hazlehurst; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, September 15, 2018, at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with Pastors Jackie Pope and Gregory Pope officiating. The interment followed in Douglas City Cemetery. 

Active pallbearers were: John Laster, Hugh Wheeles, Lance Wheeles, Logan Laster, Jeff Bramlett, Russ Fender, Jr. and Peyton Wheeles.

“Dancing In The Sky” was presented by the soloist, Ta’Nyah Woodberry, with CD music and “Amazing Grace” was presented as a congregation hymn led by Rev. Gregory Pope.

 

Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
