Today is the day the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County mobilizes for its signature event, a two-day fund-raiser at Central Square in Douglas.

The CCAGCC assists families of those affected by childhood cancer with travel, lodging and food expenses without an application. Any additional assistance such as rent, car payments, utility bills and more is received through an application and has to be approved by the board of directors. “Life goes on after a child is diagnosed and bills don’t stop,” says the CCAGCC’s Barbara Dockery.

Dockery made the following post on her Facebook page Thursday night: “There are no words to describe my love and admiration for all my fellow group members and this community. For those in our group who have worked tirelessly day after day and night after night, giving up family time and personal events to prepare for this heartfelt endeavor, ‘thank you’ will never be sufficient. I can feel your love and your passion for these children and their families daily. I would work alongside you any day without question for your cause as you have done for Childhood Cancer families. There is no greater cause in my heart.”

Throughout September, the organization has hosted events to raise awareness about the scourge of childhood cancer. All of those events culminate with the two-day fund-raiser, which always takes place the last weekend in September. A silent auction begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until 6 p.m. Tomorrow night, there will be a dinner and live auction for the big-ticket items. The dinner begins at 6 p.m. with the auction following at 7 p.m.

There are also other events throughout the day – a bake sale, a raffle, and much, much more. Everything is taking place at Central Square Complex all day today. Take a few minutes and stop by the silent auction today. The funds raised stay right here and help Coffee County families who need it the most.
