Margaret Harrell Haley “Bitsey” Hayes, age 85, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Hayes was born on November 26, 1932 in Macon, the daughter of the late Franklin Haley and Margaret Brown Haley.
Mrs. Hayes was a former teacher with the Coffee County Public School System, a charter member of the Douglas Garden Club and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Norman Hayes, Sr., and grandchildren Matt Hayes and Courtney Hayes.
Survivors include her daughter, Candace Powell (husband Michael) of Pearson; two sons, Dewey Hayes (wife Clara) of Douglas and Franklin Hayes (wife Angie) of Douglas; four grandchildren, Lauren Hayes, Catlin Hayes Shafer (husband Sam), Dewey N. Hayes III and Audrey Powell; and two great grandchildren, Nick Poliseno and Alyssa Marla.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday October 3, 2018 at 4 pm at Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Walker, Rev. John McGowen and Rev. Jim Jensen officiating. Interment followed at Oakland Cemetery, Waycross.
Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
