Republicans take Coffee County, ESPLOST passes easily

Republican candidate for governor Brian Kemp defeated Democrat Stacey Abrams easily in Coffee County Tuesday night.

Republicans made a strong statement in Coffee County Tuesday night, winning all of the races on the ballot in convincing fashion. Turnout for the mid-term election was higher than it was four years ago; 11,639 voters cast ballots, a turnout of 53 percent.

 

The special local option sales tax for education (ESPLOST), the only local decision on the ballot, passed by a large margin, 7,392 to 3,478.

 

In the race for governor, Brian Kemp (R) defeated Stacey Abrams (D) and Ted Metz (L) 8,195 votes to 3,344 and 52, respectively. In the lieutenant governor’s election, Geoff Duncan (R) bested Sarah Amico 7,746 to 2,987.

Here are the results from the other races on the ballot:

  • Secretary of State: Raffensperger over Barrow and Duval 7,670 to 3,578 and 89
  • Attorney General: Carr over Bailey 7,943 to 3,243
  • Ag Commissioner: Black over Swann 8,066 to 3,152
  • Insurance Commissioner: Beck over Laws and Foster 7,899 to 3,181 and 142
  • State School Superintendent: Woods over Thornton 8,130 to 3,167
  • Labor Commissioner: Butler over Keatley 8,050 to 3,171
  • Public Service Commissioner #1: Eaton over Miller and Graham 7,879 to 3,212 and 181
  • Public Service Commissioner #2: Pridemore over Randolph and Turpish 7,887 to 3.191 and 158
  • U.S. House of Representatives District 12: Allen over Johnson 8,105 to 3,193
  • Amendment 1: Yes over no 8,465 to 2,443
  • Amendment 2: Yes over no 7,180 to 3,384
  • Amendment 3: Yes over no, 6,270 to 4,118
  • Amendment 4: Yes over no, 8,042 to 2,721
  • Amendment 5: Yes over no, 7,292 to 3,272
  • Referendum A: Yes over no 5,662 to 4,631
  • Referendum B: Yes over no 7,778 to 2,938
