The City of Douglas contracts with Waste Industries to provide trash and recycling pick up inside Douglas. Recently, the schedule has been inconsistent due to employee challenges, weather, and holidays. “We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the trash/recycling schedule’s lack of consistency and we are working with Waste Industries to resolve the issues with trash and recycling pick up within the City,” says City Manager Charles Davis. “We should have this resolved before the Thanksgiving Holidays.”

Prior to Thursdays of each week, citizens should schedule pick up of brown/white goods by contacting the Public Works Department at 912-389-3450. Acceptable brown/white goods are: furniture, washing machines, refrigerators, dryers, stoves, microwaves, television, etc. All freon/chemical should be drained from appliances when placed for pickup.

Citizens are also encouraged to participate in the upcoming Residential Junk Drop Off days on December 1 and December 15, 2018 from 8:30 am-noon at the City Pole Yard. This does not apply to hazardous chemicals such as paints/solvents, household cleaners, pesticides/herbicides, motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, or tires. All freon/chemicals should be drained from the appliance. Proof of residency is required to drop off items at the location. This is for households in the City of Douglas. Please No business or commercial dumping is allowed.

The upcoming Thanksgiving holiday schedule will be regular pickup on Monday (11/19), Tuesday (11/20), Wednesday (11/21), and Friday (11/23). No regular pick up on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018. Recycling will be picked up on Friday, November 23, 2018.
