The SGSC men’s swim team moved their season record to 7-1 on the year against four-year colleges. The Hawk’s men defeated Berry College in the tri-meet in Rome by a score of 981 to 947.  Point University’s men placed third with 337 points. SGSC’s women placed second to Berry by a score of 1036 to 866. Loyola University of New Orleans is the only men’s team to hand SGSC a loss on the 2018-19 season.

“Berry College has a wonderful facility and program,” commented SGSC’s head swim coach CM Jenkins. “Anytime we can best them in a meet is a statement to the quality of our program. It was our first two-day, multi-session event of the year and our team performed better than expected for all three sessions.”

SGSC’s team won in dominating fashion, taking top spots in 17 out of 21 events. Leading the men were Jacksonville, Fla., sophomore Jackson Bloom and Madison, Ala., native Logan Black. Bloom went five for five for the meet, winning the 50, 100 and 200 butterfly events and the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Black joined in on the fun by winning all three breaststroke events. Also winning events for the men were sophomore Andrew Woith. The Illinois distance swimmer won both the 1000 yard freestyle and the 200 yard freestyle events. Suwannee, Ga., freshman Wyatt Dalton also won both the 50 and 100 backstroke events. Jacksonville, Fla., sophomore Orion Bopp won the 400 Individual medley race.

The Hawks’ relay teams went undefeated during the two-day contest. Both the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams, consisting of Dalton, Black, Bloom and Freshman Alexander Ray took top honors. The 400 freestyle made up of Black, Woith, Ryan Buckzowski and Freshman Blaine King placed first. In the last relay of the meet, Dalton, Bloom, King and Freshman Kyle Cassara made it a sweep in the relays by winning the 400 medley.

Jessilyn Graham from Savannah, Ga., led the women with three wins during the meet. Graham won the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Freshman Kristin Farless won the 50 yard backstroke, while sophomore Casey Hall took top honors in the 100 back.

The Hawks will travel to Savannah, Ga., the week after Thanksgiving to participate in the SCAD Invitational.
