On Dec. 13, the Community Foundation of Coffee County awarded five local charities with a total of $7,500 in grants to assist them with the work they perform for the families and children of the community.

Here are the organizations and the amount each received: Camp 151 — $2,250; Called to Care — $2,250; Coffee Alliance for the Arts — $1,000; Fellowship of Christian Athletes — $1,000; and the LIA Foundation — $1,000.

Camp 151 is a local faith-based organization that renovates homes during the summer. Guided by adult leaders, youth from throughout the area work tirelessly for a week to improve a home in need of repair. Chris Calhoun of Douglas is the Camp 151 director.

Called to Care is a local non-profit that helps connect children in the care of the Department of Family and Children Services with both foster and adoptive homes. Called to Care also provides needed items, such as clothing, school supplies, and the like, to children when they enter the DFACS system. Gentry Colson is Called to Care’s director.

The Coffee Alliance for the Arts, which was represented by JoAnne Danna, will use the Community Foundation’s grant to help fund its Missoula Children’s Theater, an annual event that gets children involved the arts through local theater.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, represented by Tommy Watkins, plans to use its grant to fund scholarships to send local student-athletes to FCA camp this summer.

The LIA Foundation, operated by Derrick and Chandra Green, sponsors a number of different initiatives that directly affect children and families throughout the community. The Community Foundation’s grant will help the Green’s continue their work of improving the lives of those most at-risk in the community.
