Mr. Roger Miles Burkett, age 57, of Douglas, was called to his heavenly home suddenly on Friday, February 8, 2019. Mr. Burkett was born in Douglas on August 10, 1961 to Loretta Gray Burkett and the late Roger Hamilton Burkett.

Miles was a loving, friendly, outgoing, generous and hard-working man. He was employed at G and S Griffis Farms in Odum as a truck driver. He loved being on the road with his wife Patsy by his side. He and Patsy were also the owners of Cherished Blessings Photography. Their love for special family and friends inspired their business name because each one was considered to be a cherished blessing to Miles and Patsy.

Miles never met a stranger; he was comfortable talking to anyone. His vast knowledge and work experience were so broad that he could discuss so many things – especially his favorites, 18-wheelers and photography. He gave to help others and considered his giving as the right thing to do. Miles demonstrated a commendable work ethic. He believed in rising early and working late to make sure his job was completed for the day. He considered Douglas Christian Fellowship Church of God as his home church. Miles’s life was an example of what he believed in his heart. Those who are fortunate enough to have had him as a family member or dear friend have been blessed beyond measure.

Survivors include: His wife of 31 years, Patsy Merritt Burkett whom he loved dearly; mother, Loretta Burkett of Douglas; sisters Robbie Cato and her late husband Dickie Cato of Douglas and Melissa Pless and husband Steve of Parrotsville, Tenn.; brother Scott Burkett and wife Vanessa of Ambrose; brother-in-law Kenneth Carver of Waycross; nephew known as “His Boy” Ross Merritt and wife Amanda of Ambrose; grandkids Harleigh Jo Merritt, Charlea Faith Merritt, River Lamar Merritt, and he was patiently awaiting the arrival of Jackson Harp Merritt; nieces and nephews Brandi Merritt, Brittany Phillips and husband Jessie, Bryn Yawn, Brianna Carver, Matthew Merritt and wife Whitney, Bryce Yawn, Seth Burkett, Travis Burkett, Adam Cato, and Daniel Carver and wife Jessica; great nieces and nephews Bentley Phillips, Emma Phillips, Jarrett Cato and Adelynn Carver. He was known as Uncle Miles to many other relatives and friends — too many to list. He was also known as Host Dad to several foreign Exchange Club students throughout the years.

The funeral service will be Monday afternoon, February 11, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Douglas Christian Fellowship Church with Bishop Leroy Spivey and Bishop Richard Denning officiating. Mr. Burkett will be placed in the church at 1:00 P.M. to lie in state until the time of the service. The interment will follow at Harrell Grove Cemetery with Bishop Glen Fussell conducting the committal service.

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
