The South Georgia State College swim teams took second at the Sun Coast meet in Orlando last week. “We were the only junior college swim team in the conference and to finish second to six four-year schools is a great accomplishment for our team,” stated SGSC head coach CM Jenkins. Keiser University won both sides of the competition while UNC Pembroke women’s team placed third and Thomas University took third for the men.
Sophomore Jessilyn Graham had a fantastic showing in the three-day long meet. Graham won both the 100 and the 200 breaststroke events by reestablishing her school record for both races. The Savannah native also placed second in the 50 freestyle. Sophomore Jackson Bloom finished second in the 100 butterfly, while freshman Chris Mazier earned second in the 200 breaststroke. Sophomore distance swimmer Steven Smith also earned second place in the 1650 freestyle.
Earning third place medals for the Hawks were Orion Bopp in the 400 IM and Anna Beth Deck in the mile long 1650 free.
The Hawks will have three weeks to finish preparing for the National Junior College Championships in Buffalo, NY.
