Kevin Tatum, County Extension Coordinator

All sixth grade 4-H members who are interested in participating in Junior District Project Achievement (DPA) next year as a seventh grader should make plans to attend the sign up meeting on Thursday, February 21, at 4:00 PM. We will be discussing the differences between Cloverleaf DPA and Junior DPA as well as signing you up for a project. Junior DPA is a fun weekend trip to Rock Eagle usually in early February. Make sure you get signed up by coming to this meeting so that you know how to properly prepare for Junior DPA.

State Indoor Archery Results

The Coffee County 4-H Archery Team traveled to Perry to compete in the state 4-H Indoor Archery Match on Saturday, January 19. Team members (and their placings) were: Georgia Barnett, Zaire Brewton (12th), Finn Doherty (4th), Hoyt English (17th), Kevin Gilliard (15th), Esperanza Gonzales, Miller Hutchison, Conner Mercer, Jordyn Moseley, Anna Lee O’Steen, Hunter Rogers, Jo Walker Solomon, Ethan Taylor, Yadira Tinajero, and Jeran Whitley.

Cloverleaf 4-H Dance

Coffee County 4‑H will be holding a Cloverleaf 4‑H Dance for 5th and 6th graders. The dance will be held in the Coffee Middle School Auditorium on Thursday, February 28, from 6 to 8 PM. 4‑H members must purchase a 4‑H wristband for twenty-five cents from their 4‑H teacher at school. Remember, NO WRISTBAND, NO DANCE! Admission fee for the dance is $10 payable at the door.

Parents who are Certified Chaperones with 4‑H are requested to help chaperon. Please arrive around 5:30 PM so that we may start on time. We will need your help until 8:30 PM after the dance.

Cloverleaf Camp Sign-up

Cloverleaf 4-H Camp is a week of fun and learning as 4-H members meet 4-H members from other counties, experience adventure in the workshops at Rock Eagle, swim in one of the two swimming pools, slide down the two story water slide at pool 2, a new high elements rope course, are entertained by the counselors at the variety show, and much more.

4-H members from Coffee County will leave on Monday, July 1, for five days and four nights of fun. The camp is located just north of Eatonton, Georgia, in the heart of the Georgia Piedmont region. We will return to Douglas on Friday, July 5, shortly after lunch.

The total cost of camp is $380.  To sign up for camp, return the 4-H camp application and a $95 non-refundable deposit to the 4-H office during office hours (8 AM to 12 PM, and 1 PM to 5 PM).  Three more $95 dollar payments will be due on March 1, April 1, and May 1, 2019.

Checks should be made payable to: Coffee County Extension/ 4‑H.  If you find out that you cannot go to camp after you have signed up, please contact the Coffee County 4-H office so we can attempt to get you a partial refund from the State 4‑H office. Remember that the $95 deposit is non-refundable.

Junior and Senior 4-H Camps

Summer 4-H camp sign-up is now going on at the 4-H office. A $100 deposit will be required at sign-up. Dates and costs for Junior and Senior 4-H camps are: Junior Camp at Camp Jekyll, June 17-21, $365; Wilderness Challenge Camp at Wahsega 4-H Center, July 1-5, $380; Marine Resource Camp at Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island, July 8-12 or July 15-19, $335; Senior 4-H Camp at Rock Eagle 4-H Center, May 27-31, $365; and Senior Extreme Camp at Rock Eagle 4-H Center Pioneer Camp, June 10-14, $360.  There may be an additional cost for each camp for transportation expenses. Be sure you have these dates on your calendar if you are interested in attending. Summer camps are tons of fun and you learn so much as well as make a lot of new friends.

If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our website at http://coffee4h.org.
