In an effort to address a multifaceted issue facing the children of Coffee County, Coffee Regional Medical Center has partnered with the Coffee County School System to address the issue of cyberbullying and the dangers of social media as well as drug awareness and addiction. CRMC is sponsoring a nationally recognized expert to engage with and educate the teachers, children, and parents of middle and high-school children of Coffee County. Sergeant Jesse Hambrick of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will bring a high-energy presentation about the hard realities and consequences of mischief in social media, bullying, cyberbullying, and drug addiction.
Contributing factors to cyberbullying and social media dangers include lack of education, knowledge, and immaturity. Children have access to smart phones at very young ages and they are not mature enough to understand the dangers, repercussions, and longevity of online actions. As parents and caretakers of our children, educating ourselves on these risks will help to ensure we are doing our part to protect our children and prevent these actions. If your child has a phone or access to social media of any kind, you do not want to miss this event.

Cyberbulling can have a significant impact on a child’s mental health which can in turn impact physical health. Partnering with our school system to help protect both mental and physical health of the children in our community is a role we’re proud of. We believe the positive effects of this program will radiate and we’re very pleased to be a part of this effort.”
There will be three sessions held on March 5. Sgt. Hambrick will present to all middle school students and teachers in the first session, all high school and freshman academy students and teachers in the second session and then an evening session will be open to the public. The evening session will be held at the Coffee Middle School Auditorium and will be 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. This will be a family event and all parents and guardians of children are encouraged to attend this educational and enlightening session. Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
