Last week, Melinda McSwain, formerly of Broxton, who was arrested in October in connection with the 1991 abduction and murder of Sabrina Long, 19, of Macon, was denied bond in a Macon courtroom. There were also several shocking revelations during the hearing.

Long’s boyfriend dropped her off at her step-father’s home on the night of Aug. 14, 1991. Around midnight, she called her mother and said she was going to the home of Keith Loyd, a neighbor. That was the last time anyone heard from her.

According to a story posted online by The Macon Telegraph about Thursday’s court proceedings, Loyd had been a suspect in Long’s disappearance. The GBI had interviewed him multiple times and Loyd had passed several polygraph tests. He also had an alibi that had checked out. The story also quoted Long’s mother, who said she had always had her suspicions about Loyd.

Loyd, however, isn’t around to answer any more questions. About a year and a half ago, Loyd committed suicide by stepping in front of a train in Macon. The date was Sept. 17, 2017, and the GBI was supposed to interview Loyd again that day regarding the Long case. According to the Telegraph’s story, Loyd left a note that implicated both he and McSwain in Long’s disappearance and murder. There was no mention of the note’s current whereabouts.

The Telegraph’s report also stated that McSwain has admitted that both she and Loyd were involved in kidnapping and murdering Long.

Long’s remains have never been found. In January, McSwain was charged with murder in the case.
