4-H Camp Registration Still Underway-Target Sports Update

Kevin Tatum, County Extension Coordinator

There are still a few spaces left for the various 4-H Camps this summer. Cloverleaf 4-H members
(4-6 graders) will camp at Rock Eagle the week of July 1-5. Junior 4-H members (7-8 graders)
will camp at Camp Jekyll the week of June 17-21. Senior 4-H members (9-12 graders) will also
camp at Rock Eagle, but they will camp the week of May 27-31. Other specialty camps offered
to Junior 4-H members are Wilderness Challenge Camp at Wahsega 4-H Center the week of July
1-5, or Marine Resources Camp at Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island the week of July 8-12 or
July 15-19.  Senior 4-H members can also attend the Senior Extreme Camp at the Rock Eagle
Pioneer Camp the week of June 10-14. If you have a 4-H member interested in attending any of
these camps, please have come by the 4-H office and discuss it with us.

The total cost for these camps runs between $335 and $380 depending on the camp.  A deposit of
at least $95 or $100 must be paid at sign up and the balance is due by May 1. Checks should be
made payable to: Coffee County Extension/ 4H.

Can Tabs for Ronald McDonald House
Coffee County 4-H is asking Coffee County residents to collect can tabs for the Ronald
McDonald House Charities project. These tabs help provide lodging and meals for families with
children receiving medical treatment at hospitals. It provides a home away from home for
parents who have to deal with some very stressful situations in their families’ lives. Tabs can be
turned in at the Coffee County Extension office located in the Coffee County Agricultural Center
on East Ward Street. Remember, every little can tab helps!

Target Sports Update
The Coffee County 4-H BB Team hosted the Georgia State VFW BB Match in Douglas
on Saturday, February 16. Teams from all over Georgia came to compete in this state match. The
top three teams qualified to advance to the Daisy National BB Gun Championship Match in
Rogers, Arkansas this summer. They were Tift, Pierce, and Madison Counties. Since Pierce
already had an invitation to the national match, the 4th place Coffee County team gets their
invitation. Team members advancing to the national match are J.J. Aldridge, Amelia Gibson,
Harleigh Hope, Caelan Merritt, Allison Merritt, Mason Stewart, and Huey Underhill. Coaches
include W.B. Merritt, Sheri Mincey, Don Stokes, and Cindy Gibson.

Other team members who competed in the contest included Matthew Found, Allie Gasque,
Natalie Guthrie, Taylor McClelland, and Russ O’Steen. We want to wish them the best of luck in
their upcoming competitions as well as at the national match.

The team is also getting ready to compete in an area 4H qualification match. Teams must shoot a
qualifying score to advance to the state 4-H match at Rock Eagle on May 4.

The archery team is practicing getting ready for their match as well. They will all travel to Rock
Eagle 4H Center to compete in the State 4-H Outdoor Match on April 27. The archery team is
coached by Chalanda Woods.

We wish all of our teams the best of luck as they compete this year.

If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H
program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our
