South Georgia State College (SGSC) is beefing up its summer class offerings this year with a new program entitled Pre-flight Academic Summer Schedule (PASS). The eight-week summer program provides students just graduating from high school a chance to ease their transition into college and to build a strong academic foundation for success. Students participating in the program will receive full college credit for completed courses while enjoying a fun-filled summer at SGSC. Small classes and a flexible schedule allow students to hang out with friends, work or just relax while making the most of their summer break.

The summer experience is not only for first-time college students. Current students who wish to get ahead with their studies as well as transient students who might take a class or two on either the Douglas or Waycross Campus will find lots to do through many planned outing and enrichment experiences linked to their classes. In addition, students can participate in other extracurricular activities both on and off campus too.

Parents take note – summer housing is available on the Douglas Campus at special reduced rates. The residence halls provide fully furnished semi-suites complete with amenities such as Wi-Fi, on-site laundry room, cable TV, 24/7 campus police staffing as well as a summer meal plan. There are many benefits in joining other students in this year’s PASS program. In addition to getting to know the campus and local community, meeting faculty and staff, interacting with other students and making new friends, students continuing into the fall will benefit from:

  • Guaranteed Fall Housing  (www.sgsc.edu/housing)
  • Priority Fall Registration  (www.sgsc.edu/schedules)
  • Personalized Financial Aid Guidance (www.sgsc.edu/finaid)
  • Peer Tutoring and Academic Success (www.sgsc.edu/academicsuccess)
  • Full academic credit for successfully completed classes

SGSC has one of the lowest in-state tuition rates in the nation, but sometimes paying for college is still a challenge. SGSC can help cover the cost of PASS through Federal financial assistance including Pell Grants and loans.  SGSC offers state sponsored scholarship assistance through the HOPE program.  Prospective applicants from Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, North and South Carolina can apply for an out-of-state-tuition waiver and pay the same in-state tuition as Georgia residents through a new state sponsored initiative to lower the cost of higher education to students from neighboring states.  If you are spending the summer at SGSC, make sure you complete an Out-of-State Tuition Waiver.

To view available courses and find the best schedule option for you, visit www.sgsc.edu/schedules. If you still have questions, get answers in a flash at http://talon.sgsc.edu/help/.

Now is the time to get started! Classes begin May 28 with a move in date in the residence halls of either May 24 or May 27. Secure your spot by applying at www.sgsc.edu/apply. After you are admitted, register for a Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) session.

Call  912-260-4200 or submit a ticket through the new Hawk Helper service: http://talon.sgsc.edu/help/.  Someone will respond within 48 hours.
