William D. Poole, age 78, of Douglas, passed away on Sunday April 21, 2019 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mr. Poole was born on October 4, 1940 in Bacon County, the son of the late Almond and Eunice Carretta Stewart Poole

 

He was a retired supervisor with the Coffee County Department of Family and Children’s Services and was a supervisor/counselor at Coffee Correctional Facility in Nicholls, a member of First Baptist Church in Douglas, and a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War.

 

Survivors include his wife Dorothy C. Poole of Douglas; sister, Linda Harman of Lilburn; step-children, Kay Fletcher (Michael) of Douglas and Michael A Carter (Julianne) of Adel; four grandchildren, Mathew A. Carter (Lacey), Mandy C. McMillian (Jessie), Lacey Reese (Michael) and Joshua Michael Fletcher; seven great grandchildren, Kayden Carter, Anna Catherine Carter, Savannah Carter, Belle Monroe Carter, Carter McMillian, Mary Evelyn McMillian and Cliff McMillian; several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 pm Tuesday April 23, 2019 at Sand Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Lycett and Rev. Shep Johnson officiating with Joshua Fletcher giving the eulogy. Interment followed at Sand Hill Church Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.

 

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
