The Douglas Police Department is on a mission to improve citizen communication with officers throughout neighborhoods in Douglas.  Citizens are invited to Coffee with a Cop on Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 8 am-10 am at Northcutt Soul Food, located at 937 S. Gaskin Avenue.

“It is our hope that citizens will take the time to meet and have conversations about community issues or simply come out and get to know our officers,” says Douglas Police Chief Shane Edmisten.  “We hope, by hosting this event in different neighborhoods throughout Douglas, we will open the doors for positive interactions with police officers.”

Community policing has long been considered a framework for establishing trust between the community and the police. The first Coffee with a Cop was launched in Hawthorne, California in 2011 when Officers from the Hawthorne Police Department were looking for ways to interact more successfully with the citizens they served each day. Coffee with a Cop events are now held in all 50 states and is one of the most successful community oriented policing programs across the country.
