American Legion Post 515 plans an open house, flag disposal ceremony

American Legion Post 515 will host an open house Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 3 to 5 pm, followed by a dignified flag disposal from 5 to 6 pm.  It will be held at American Legion Post 515, located at 1510 McLean Street in Douglas. Everyone is invited, especially veterans and family members of veterans, to include the general public.

There are many things veterans and family members need to know and accomplish while they are able; therefore, the focus will be on veterans’ services and support. Expected are representatives from 90 Works, which provides support to homeless veterans; State Veterans’ Service Office, they assist veterans with VA claims preparation and filing and finally, Legal Shield.  They assist with legal issues at a reasonable cost. There will be other veteran support information provided and discussed. Refreshments will be provided at no cost. There will be opportunities to win door prizes. Please come out and hear what’s available and take part in the flag disposal.

When a US flag becomes worn and unserviceable, it should be ceremoniously disposed of. On June 8, members of American Legion Post 515 will ceremoniously dispose of numerous unserviceable flags during a flag disposal ceremony.  These flags were collected in recognition of Flag Day, which is June 14.

Anyone with worn and unserviceable US flags may contact Jerome Loving at 912-592-6413.  He will make himself available to receive flags; however, Post 515 does not provide flags. The goal is to help with the removal of old and worn flags from flagpoles in around Douglas and Coffee County.  This helps fulfill the American Legion purpose, which is service to veterans, their families and the community.

For more information, please contact Jerome Loving at 912-592-6413.
