City re-issues RFP for Martin Centre
The City of Douglas has re-issued its RFP for the purchase of the Martin Centre. The city wishes for individuals or businesses that would like to purchase the historic Martin Centre to submit their bids so that the foundation that has been laid for quality theatre and cultural performances downtown may continue. Originally built in late 1939 – 1941 as a Martin movie house, the theater is now being utilized for rentals, dance recitals, and concerts.
“After no bids were received at the first bid opening, the city decided to re-issue the bid for the purchase of the Martin Centre by lowering the base bid amount,” says Georgia Henderson, Community Development Director. “We believe that lowering the base bid will allow us to receive bids from community members and other interested individuals. We hope that those persons will bid on the theatre and include a proposal plan that will be able to grow the theatre to its full potential.”
The city released the RFP on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, for interested parties to bid on purchase of the downtown theatre. Bid submittal deadline is 5 pm, Monday, June 24, 2019. Bid specs can be obtained through the city website, www.cityofdouglas.com/bids.
