George Carroll Baisden, age 80, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Friday evening June 14, 2019 at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia. Mr. Baisden was born on September 11, 1938 in Douglas, the son of the late Earlie Bird Baisden and Vera Purvis Baisden.

Mr. Baisden worked as a line technician with General Motors, was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Tony Drew and Alex Drew; two grandchildren, Nick Housholder and Nathan Baisden; sister, Betty Douglas; three brothers, Anderlee Baisden, Robert Baisden and Junior Baisden.

Survivors include daughter, Genia Johnson of Rockmart; son, Danny Baisden of Hazlehurst; three grandchildren, Brandon Housholder of Dallas, Britney Chambers of Rockmart, and Brandy Housholder of Rockmart; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Stewart of Hazlehurst, Margie Sanders of Alachua, Fla., and Margaret Ann Goble of Memphis, Tenn.; brother, Ronald Baisden of Hazlehurst; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 18, 2019 at 2 pm at Sims Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Salem Church Cemetery with military honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday evening at Sims Funeral Home.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
