The Department of Agriculture has sanctioned another local Dollar General for unsanitary conditions.

The Dollar General store located at 4074 Willacoochee Highway just outside of Douglas has been prohibited from selling food or drink items due to a “severe roach infestation,” according to a notice placed at the store by the Department of Agriculture.

According to Julie McPeake with the Department of Agriculture, the department received a consumer complaint about the store. The department sent an inspector to investigate and, according to McPeake, “found evidence to support that concern. We put all food and beverage products on embargo.” She added that the department will dispatch another inspector once Dollar General personnel feel like the problem has been addressed. “We will re-inspect the store and make a decision on how to go forward at that time,” she stated.

In May, the Department of Agriculture put a similar embargo on the Dollar General store located on Highway 221 in Oak Park because of a severe rat infestation.

The Dollar General on the Willcoochee Highway remains open. DouglasNow.com sent an email to Dollar General requesting comment. Dollar General has yet to reply. DouglasNow.com will update this story if and when Dollar General’s public information department responds.
