National Night Out to take place at SGSC pool on Aug. 6

On Tuesday, August 6, 2019, from 4 pm – 7 pm, Douglas citizens are invited to join other communities throughout the United States for Douglas’ Third Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event at the South Georgia State College pool.  National Night Out will involve over 16,000 communities from all 50 states, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 38 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.  This year’s, National Night Out Against Crime event, will feature free back to school supplies (while they last), free hot dogs, free coke products, public safety vehicle displays, Georgia State Patrol helicopter, fire trucks, demonstrations, pool activities, DJ activities and games, and more – all in one night for our community to enjoy.

“This is a night for Douglas to come out and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity,” says Douglas Police Chief Shane Edmisten.  “National Night Out showcases the importance of public safety community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer community.  We invite everyone to join us at this event and have some fun!”

Community partners include: Douglas Police Department, Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, Douglas Fire Department, South Georgia State College, Georgia State Patrol, CSRA Probation Services, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Coffee EMS, 8 Finger Jack Stew & Q, Broadcast South Media (106.7 The Buck & 93.5 The Vibe), and McRae Coca-Cola.  More community partners are needed to make this event a success! For more information, please contact the Douglas Police Department at 912-384-2222.
