American Legion Post 515 recognized at Centennial Convention

The American Legion Department of Georgia hosts a conversation each year to elect officers, recognize individuals and posts and handle other American Legion business.

This year, 13 members of American Legion Post 515 attended the Centennial Convention.  Commander Alfalene Walker accepted the Post Excellence Certificate for Post 515.  This certificate is presented to posts that excels in membership, program and activities and community service.  Jerome Loving was presented to Department of Georgia Go-Getters and Recruiter of the Year Certificate for recruiting the most new members in the 12th District.

Post 515’s new officer installation will be Saturday, July 20 from 6:00 till 9:00 PM.  City, county and school officials and other American Legion posts are invited.

Wreaths Across American Fundraising is underway.  Members have identified 74 cemeteries and apparently 2,700 veterans to place flags and wreaths on their graves in December.

Postcards were mailed to individuals, businesses and organizations who donated in the past. Members appreciate their support and request their continued support.  It is imperative that churches, schools, businesses, organizations and individuals get involved, especially those with deceased veteran loved ones buried in and around Douglas and Coffee County.  Wreaths cost $15 each and all donations are tax deductible. Any amount will be appreciated. Donations are needed by November 15 so members can meet the deadline.

Members of American Legion Post 515 have been doing fundraisers but are well short of the over $40,000 needed to purchase flags and wreaths.

The Wreath Across American Ceremony will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 PM Saturday, December 14 at the C.E. Weir Senior Citizen Center.  Everyone is invited and encouragd to attend.
