Kathleen Griffis Hutto, age 81, of Douglas, passed away on Friday July 12, 2019 at Tift Regional Hospital. Mrs. Hutto was born on September 28, 1937 in Atkinson County, the daughter of the late Charles Avon Mercer and Rachel Morgan Mercer.

She worked as a sales clerk with Harvey’s Supermarket and attended Southview Church of God. She also worked as a substitute teacher with the Coffee County School System.

Mrs. Hutto was preceded in death by her first husband, James Melvin Griffis; second husband, Charles J. Hutto; two sisters, Christine “Rose” Rawles and Pauline “Sissie” Avery; brother, Carlie Ben Mercer; and grandchild, April Michele Griffis.

Survivors include: daughter, Susan Carelock (husband Nolan) of Douglas; two sons, Marty Griffis (wife Shelia) of Douglas and Keith Griffis of Douglas; sister, Carlene M. Walker of Brookfield; four grandchildren, Kristi Batten (husband Ben) of Ambrose, Amanda Murphy (husband Kevin) of Douglas, Cari Jo Crosby (husband Clint) of Douglas, and Nolan Ryan Carelock of Douglas; great grandchildren, Madison Batten, Maylee Batten, Ava Murphy, Chloe Crosby, Caroline Crosby and Cammie Jaymes Crosby.

Funeral services were held on Monday July 15, 2019 at 11 am at Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Byron Griffis and Rev. Billy Musgrove officiating. Interment followed at Douglas City Cemetery. 

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
