Mr. Earl Lee Newell, age 80 of Douglas, passed away Thursday morning, August 1, 2019 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Newell was born February 18, 1939 to the late Fletcher Newell and the late Florine Strickland Newell.

Mr. Newell, a native of Coffee County, had been a retail salesman with Matthews Furniture.
He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. 

Survivors include: His wife of 60 years, Patricia “Pat” Singletary Newell of Douglas; children Lataine Taylor and husband Terry of Fitzgerald, Van Newell of Douglas, and Chandler Newell and wife Allison of Douglas; sister Earline Spivey and husband R.W. of Douglas; grandchildren Dawn Sparks, Kate Newell, Abbie Newell, and Natalie Newell, all of Douglas and Zara Sparks of Lakeland; great-grandchildren Braleigh Smith and Oceana Newell, both of Douglas and Ethan Powers of Lakeland; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be Saturday afternoon, August 3, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Morningside Baptist Church with Rev. Chip Woodruff, Rev. Gerald Gardner and Rev. Matt Rutland officiating. The interment will follow in Douglas City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, August 2, 2019 from 6:00 P.M. to 8.00 P.M. at Ricketson Funeral Home

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
