Mr. Wayne Holle Merkel, age 99 of Douglas, passed away Friday morning, August 16, 2019 at the home of his daughter, Linda Adkins of Nicholls, following an extended illness. Mr. Merkel was born July 11, 1920 to the late August Christian Merkel and the late Marie Holle Merkel. 

Mr. Merkel was a native of Yorkville, IL. He was a printer/typesetter for Midwest Printers in Aurora, IL for many years. He was also a veteran of the US Navy.

Survivors include: his wife Norma Schramer Merkel of Nicholls; children Linda A. Adkins of Nicholls, Michael Merkel of Greensboro, N.C., Cheryl Hester of Aurora, IL, Tim Merkel of Geneva, Ohio, Kate Burns of Riverside, Rhode Island and Steven Merkel of Colorado Springs, Colorado; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

A memorial service and inurnment will follow at a later date.

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
