Mildred Porter Stevens

Mildred Porter Stevens, age 76, of Douglas, passed away on Monday September 2, 2019 at Irwin County Hospital. Mrs. Stevens was born on April 8, 1943 in Douglas, the daughter of the late Joseph Charlie Porter and Rosa Lee Trowell Porter.

 

She worked as a store manager with the Salvation Army and was a member of St. Illa Baptist Church.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by herhusband, Johnny Verlon Stevens; daughter, Mary WenoaStevens; two granddaughters, Amanda Stevens and Samantha Stevens; sister, Lenora Miller; and two brothers, Jimmy Porter and Buck Porter.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Bowen of Douglas and Donna Delgado (husband Juan) of Douglas; three sons, Dwain Stevens (wife Teresa) of Douglas, Joel Stevens (wife Janet) of Douglas, and Ricky Stevens (wife Lorie) of Ambrose; sister, Virginia McClendon of Douglas; two sisters-in-laws, Jean Porter of Douglas and Patricia Raper of Douglas; brother-in-law, Jack Stevens of Texas; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

 

Funeral services were held on Thursday September 5, 2019 at 4:00pm at St. Illa Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Mercer, Rev. Den Wenigar and Rev. Glen Fussell officiating. Intermentfollowed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeff Raper, Scott Miller, Chris Carver, Bobby Taylor, Sherman Taylor and Logan Miller. Honorary pallbearers were her Sunday Schoolclass at College Avenue Baptist Church and staff at the Salvation Army.

 

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
