Childhood Cancer Awareness Group continues to assist local families

What would you do if your child was diagnosed with childhood cancer?

Often when a child is diagnosed with childhood cancer, one or both parents must quit their jobs or take an extended leave of absence to care for their child.  If this happens, how would you pay your monthly bills?

This is where The Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County (CCAGCC) steps in.  The CCAGCC assists families with monthly living expenses and travel so that they can focus their time and energy on their child.

Here are some of the things the CCAGCC has helped with

  • Mortgage payments
  • Electric bills
  • Phone bills
  • Medical bills
  • Travel and lodging costs
  • Vehicle payments
  • And, sadly, sometimes funeral costs

In 2018, the group disbursed approximately $152,647.14 in assistance to the qualifying families of Coffee and surrounding counties.  That averages out to almost $13,000/month needed to continue assisting current families. Unfortunately, the group adds new families each year so they must continue fundraising efforts to have funds available for new children should the need arise.

CCAGCC has 13 families it currently assists. That’s 13 families that might have lost their homes, vehicles, electricity or be forced to file for bankruptcy because they simply could not work and maintain their income.

CCAGCC could not do any of this without the continued support of its communities.  When you buy a T-shirt, make an auction item donation or make a monetary donation, it goes directly to assist these families.
