Walmart has grants available for community organizations

In 1962, Sam Walton opened the doors of the first Walmart. He recognized the value of bringing affordable products to people in small towns. Walmart has been helping people save money – and live better – ever since. In 1982, the Walmart Foundation was created to help support the communities Walmart serves. Together, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation generally provide more than $1 billion in cash and in-kind annual giving. We focus on areas where we can do the most good – combining the unique strengths of the business alongside our philanthropy. Our ability to draw on Walmart business strengths, providing more than just funding, enables our philanthropy to deliver greater societal impact.

Walmart believes in operating globally and giving back locally – creating impact in the neighborhoods where we live and work.

Through the community grants program, stores, clubs, distribution centers and transportation offices can support the needs of their communities by providing funding to organizations working to improve the lives of our customers, associates and neighbors.

Walmart DC 6010 in Douglas broke ground in 1984 and has been operating since 1986. Since then Walmart has been donating back to the community in various ways. This year we received a total of $40,500 to help support the community that was with an additional $5000 added midway through the year. The organizations that received funds this year were: Albany State University, American Legion Post 515, Inc, Brighter International Ministries Inc, Broxton-Mary Hayes Elementary, Child Advocacy Center of Coffee County, Coffee Middle School, Coffee County Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy, Fitzgerald High School, Foster Care Support Foundation, FreshStart Help Center, Inc., Jacobs’ Ladder Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc., Arbor Baptist Church, Mary Hayes Center Inc., Satilla Elementary School, Second Harvest of South Georgia, South Georgia Boy Scout Council, South Georgia Potter’s House for Women, Atkinson County High School Track Team, Hospice Care Options Foundation, McRae-Telfair County Boys and Girls Club, Atkinson County Cross Country, Honor and Remember, Start Fresh Corp, Bacon County High Basketball Cheer, Atkinson County High School – Girls Basketball Team.

Special thanks goes to DC6010 Community Grant Committee, this team meets quarterly to discuss each applicant. Leader: Julie Germani, Facility HR Manager; Committee: Whitney Newham Batson- Transportation HRM. Ed Taylor, Judy McKinnon, and Walter Chaney Jr; Long term hourly associates.
